Free credentialing readiness guide

Know what to confirm before an application begins.

Credentialing is the process an insurer uses to verify a provider or organization before deciding whether to enroll or contract with it. Enrollment, contracting, licensing, billing setup, and network participation may involve separate steps.

Clarify your service model

  • Identify the services, populations, and locations you will serve
  • Confirm whether services are individual, group, facility, or agency based
  • Separate commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, and licensing needs

Verify foundational records

  • Review legal name, tax ID, NPI type, taxonomy, and service address
  • Confirm active licenses, insurance, certifications, and ownership records
  • Keep provider and organization information consistent across systems

Research the right networks

  • Confirm the payer serves your state, county, ZIP code, and population
  • Ask whether the network and your specialty are accepting applications
  • Do not assume an application guarantees a contract or effective date

Plan the actual workload

  • Count each provider, group, facility, and payer enrollment accurately
  • Identify attestations that must be completed personally by the provider
  • Track submissions, confirmation numbers, follow-ups, and approvals
This educational guide is free and available whether or not you purchase a Savings Pass or hire a credentialing service. It is general information—not legal, billing, payer, or licensing advice.

How this supports our mission

Expanding access for community-serving organizations.

NJ Impact Initiatives works to strengthen underserved communities and the small organizations that serve them through practical education, digital access, and capacity-building support.

Savings Pass fees help NJ Impact administer this access initiative and support its mission-related programs. The $10 fee is not a donation and is not a payment for credentialing services.

Independent service provider disclosure: If a participant chooses to proceed after purchasing a pass, credentialing services are offered under a separate agreement with the participating provider identified in the Savings Pass terms. NJ Impact does not perform payer applications, guarantee results, receive a commission or percentage of credentialing fees, or receive authority to make payer decisions.
